The Salvation Army’s new building, located on an East Carson Street corner, will replace a parking lot with a building that will contribute to the life of the street.
Directly across from Cupples Stadium, it provides a great opportunity to reinforce the aesthetic of an earlier Strada project. The Cupples and the Salvation Army buildings fit in the context of existing structures, share a design language, and together create a gateway to the historic South Side.
One of the most satisfying aspects of working as an architect in a "real" city like Pittsburgh is resurrecting a historic, dormant structure and transforming it into a lively, modern place for people. Currently, Strada is in the process of restoring and repurposing the old GC Murphy building into Market Square Place, a mixed-use complex.
